There are four steps that must be taken to become a substitute teacher in Medina County.
Step #1 - Complete AppliTrack Application and complete all the forms listed to the right.
**Please note - Cloverleaf Local School District is accepting non-bachelor candidates for the 2022-2023 school year. If you do not have a Bachelor's Degree but are interested in substitute teaching, please fill out the Non-Bachelor Application to the right.
Step #2 - Please call our office 330.723.6393, Ext. 134, to schedule an appointment to bring all of the fully completed forms to the right, along with the following:
- A Valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License - If you have a valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License, we must have a copy in our office. If you do not have a teaching license and need to apply for a substitute license, you must apply online through the Ohio Department of Education. You can apply for your license before making your appointment to bring in your paperwork.
** Please note: If you are applying for a NEW license, our office must have a copy of your official transcript that shows you have earned your Bachelor's degree BEFORE we can approve your licensure online through the Ohio Department of Education.**
- A Criminal Record Check - We will accept copies of your BCI and FBI check if they have been completed within the past year, using the reason code 3319.291. If you have not been fingerprinted within the past year, ESCMC offers fingerprinting by appointment only using the Web Check electronic fingerprinting system. There is a $30 fee for the BCI and a $30 fee for the FBI fingerprinting. We accept cash, check, credit cards, and money orders.
Step #3 - Completion of Training -
- All substitute teachers are required to complete Public School Works training. Our office will register you during your appointment using your email address.
**Once you have completed the required training, please email or mail your certificate of completion. You will not be placed on our sub list until our office receives this documentation. ALL TRAINING MODULES must be completed BEFORE you will be placed on the sub list.**
- SubSkills Online Training Course **Waived for the 2022-2023 school year** - If you are required to take the course, it must be completed before you are placed on the sub list. This training is required for substitute teachers who hold a substitute only license, any fully licensed educator who has not had full-time classroom teaching experience or has not student taught within the past five (5) years.
Step #4 - Once you have completed Steps 1 - 3, you will be placed on our substitute list. Please keep in mind we do a list each Friday.
Step #5 - Your employment will now be Board-approved. Our Board meets on the 4th Monday of each month.
Aside from our Board meeting, each individual school district has its own Board meeting, at which substitute teachers are approved for employment. These schools include Buckeye Local, Cloverleaf Local, Highland Local, Medina City, and the Medina County Career Center. You will receive another packet of information from each of the districts in which you signed up to work.
