Below are the steps that must be taken to become a substitute teacher in Medina County.
Step 1 - Complete an AppliTrack application by clicking HERE
Please note: Cloverleaf Local School District is accepting non-bachelor candidates for the 2023-2024 school year. If you do not have a bachelor's degree and are interested in substitute teaching, please fill out the Substitute Teacher AppliTrack application.
Step 2 - Call our office at 330.723.6393, Ext. 601559, to request the Substitute Teaching Paperwork, which will be emailed to you. You will also need to schedule an appointment to bring in two original forms of ID (Driver’s License and Social Security Card, Driver’s License and Birth Certificate, or a valid Passport), along with the following:
- A Valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License - If you have a valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License, we must have a copy. If you do not have a teaching license and need to apply for a substitute license, you will apply online through the Ohio Department of Education.
Please note: If you are applying for a NEW license, our office must have a copy of your official transcript that shows you have earned your bachelor's degree BEFORE we can approve your licensure through the Ohio Department of Education.
- Background Checks - We will accept copies of your BCI and FBI background checks if they have been completed within the past year, using the reason code 3319.291. If you have not had a background check within the past year, you can complete the fingerprinting during your appointment. The cost of the BCI background check is $30 and the FBI background check is $30. We accept credit card, check, or exact cash.
Step 3 - Completion of Training
- PublicSchoolWORKS Online Training Modules - All substitute teachers are required to complete this training. Our office will register you during your appointment using your email address.
**Once you have completed the required training, please email Janelle Sailer at [email protected]. ALL training modules must be completed BEFORE you will be placed on the substitute list.**
- SubSkills Online Training Course - **Waived for the 2023-2024 school year** - If you are required to take the course, it must be completed BEFORE you are placed on the substitute list. This training is required for substitute teachers who hold a substitute only license, any fully licensed educator who has not had full-time classroom teaching experience or has not student taught within the past five (5) years.
Step 4 - Once you have completed Steps 1 - 3, you will be added to our substitute list, which is sent out every Friday.
Step 5 - Your employment will be Board approved at each individual school district. After approval, each district will send you a welcome email, along with your Frontline/Red Rover login information.
