It is a wonderful resource to the classroom when a student is fluent in more than one language. The diversity represented in another culture and language can enhance the worldview of students. However, attaining fluency in English can require extra tutoring sessions as well as adjustments in the classroom program for that international student.
The English Language Learners (ELL) program serves students in Medina County that have been identified as Limited English Proficient (LEP) by a Language Assessment when the student is:- between the ages of 3 and 21
- is enrolled or preparing to enroll in an elementary school or secondary school; and
- who is not born in the United States or whose native language is a language other than English
Our ELL program seeks to encourage success in the areas of reading, writing, speaking, and listening for our students. Suggestions and strategies for adapting the classroom assignments as well as incorporating the rich background of our students into the subject matter are helpful for the classroom teachers.
