New Literacies in Action (Self-Paced Online Course)
Bill KistBased on his award-winning book, New Literacies in Action, Dr. Kist will model a variety of ways that you can integrate technology into your classroom. Collected from schools across North America, these strategies can be implemented in a wide range of classrooms, from the technologically barren to the technologically advanced. Assignments and assessments will be demonstrated that can be used in conjunction with: Blogging, Using Social Media, Texting, Using Google Classroom, and Integrating the Arts. Video clips from documentary footage shot on location in classrooms throughout North America will be shared to provide real-world examples of students and teachers co-learning in new media environments.

One (1) Graduate Credit Hour will be available at the cost of $162 through Kent State University. Once your enrollment is processed, you will receive a link with instructions on registering for Kent credit. The assignment for graduate credit is to write an outline of a unit plan in which you describe how you might enact several of the principles discussed over the course of the class. List your curriculum goals for the entire unit and the instructional strategies and assessments you will use to embed new literacies into your instruction.

Audience: Grades 5-12

Registration fee: $75 (Medina County educators) / $125 (Out-of-District educators)

Registration deadline: Register now through November 1, 2019, for the Fall Semester. Transcripts will be available after December 30, 2019.
