Substitute Teacher Orientation

Every prospective NCSSA substitute teacher must attend a Substitute Teacher Orientation prior to employment with the NCSSA. The length of the orientation varies depending upon class attendance size. There is a 1 hour presentation followed by an individual check-out process with 1-2 checkers. 

Topics covered include:

· Payroll Processes
· Appropriate Licensure
· Fraud Reporting
· Confidentiality
· Use of the Aesop System
· Communicating with Wixey & Associates regarding day-to-day placements
· Work Hours
· Reporting for Work at School Sites
· Lesson Plans (Following them and what to do if there are none)
· Student Management Tips
· End of the Day Routines

At orientation, every substitute receives and signs off on an NCSSA Substitute Teacher Handbook. The handbook further details NCSSA expectations for substitutes’ performance in job assignments, attendance, professional conduct, safety, and appearance. Potential disciplinary processes and policies regarding the acceptable use of technology in the classroom, bullying, and child abuse reporting are also detailed therein. 

Please bring the following items with you to the Orientation:

· 2 forms of ID – we need to see original documents and please bring a Xerox copy of each document – can be driver’s license and social security card, driver's license and birth certificate, or passport.

· Copy of current sub/teaching license – if you do not have, you can forward to our office once you receive it.

· Copy of FBI and BCI background check results (within the past year). If you do not have, we can do for you at our office.           $50 payable via cash, check or money order only.

· A voided check or letter from bank with account and routing information for payroll. NO DEPOSIT FORMS. NO STATEMENTS.  Voided Checks or Bank Letter ONLY are accepted.

· Copy of official transcripts. (New subs only)
