SUBSTITUTE TEACHING PROCESS

Thank you for your interest in serving as a substitute teacher in Medina County.

The Medina County Schools' Educational Service Center maintains a list of substitute teachers for the Brunswick City, Buckeye Local, Cloverleaf Local, Highland Local, Medina City, Medina County Career Center, and Wadsworth City School Districts.   

The following steps must be taken to complete the substitute process:

Step #1 - Please download, print, and complete the following forms highlighted in yellow listed below.

Substitute Application - If you are interested in substitute and full-time teaching you will only need to fill out the Search Soft Application We will accept this application for substitute and full-time teaching.  There is no need to complete two applications.

2011 Substitute Information Form

 I-9 Employment Verification Form - To complete this requirement, you must come to the Personnel office with identification. A passport alone is sufficient identification for an I-9 Employment Verification Form. If you do not have a passport, you must have a driver’s license and a social security card or a driver’s license and an original birth certificate. Photocopies of these documents will not be accepted.

Substitute Teacher Orientation Training Program

Payroll Forms (Brunswick City Schools only) - All substitute teachers who wish to work in the Brunswick City School district will now be assigned and paid by the Medina County Schools' ESC through the Aesop Program.  The direct deposit form is mandatory.  The only change that you should see through this process is that your time sheets and payroll information will all flow through the ESC as opposed to the respective district.  

If you wish to substitute teach in Buckeye, Cloverleaf, Highland, Medina City, MCCC, or  Wadsworth City School Districts your time sheets and payroll information will flow through the respective district.

A Valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License - If you have a valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License, we must have a copy in our office. If you do not have a teaching license and need to apply for a substitute license, please click HERE to download the substitute license application.  Please complete application and return it to our office.   

Mandatory Training Using Public School Works - Effective 2011, any new substitute teacher is required to complete the following: Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communication, Sexual Harassment, Accident/Exposure Reporting, and Safety/Violence Prevention.  These trainings must be completed within 30 days of the date of registration.  Our office will register you during your appointment using your E-mail address.  

****Once you have completed the required trainings, please E-mail or mail your Certificate of Completion.  You will not be placed on our sub list until our office receives this documentation. 

A Criminal Record Check - If you have completed a BCI and FBI check within the past 1 year, we will accept copies.  If you have not been fingerprinted within the past 1 year, MCSESC offers fingerprinting by appointment only using the Web Check electronic fingerprinting system for the BCI and FBI checks.  There is a $30 fee for the BCI and $30 fee for the FBI fingerprinting.  We accept cash, check, credit card (Visa, or Master Card), and money order.

Step #2

Please call our office to schedule an appointment to bring all of the above required forms to our office, along with your driver's license & social security card or driver's license & birth certificate or a passport, your BCI and FBI fingerprinting results, if you've done them within the past one year, and a copy of your valid Ohio Teaching or Substitute License, if you have one.

Step #3

Once you have completed steps # 1 and # 2, you will be placed on our substitute list.  Please keep in mind we do a list on the 1st and 3rd Friday's of each month.  

Step #4

You will now be board approved.  Our board meets on the 4th Monday of each month.  At this board meeting you will be approved for Brunswick City Schools. You will then be E-mailed information regarding Aesop login.  Aside from our board meeting, each individual school district has their own board meeting. These schools include:  Buckeye Local, Cloverleaf Local, Highland Local, Medina City, Medina County Career Center, and Wadsworth City School Districts.  You will then receive another packet of information from each of these districts you signed up for.
