Barbara Johns, Medina County Art League Scholarship Committee Chair, stated, “Our challenge is to find the students who not only have talent but who can create with their heart. We believe we have done this and are happy to announce the award winners. We also believe the teachers play a large part in the quality of work the students produce and would like to thank them for giving our students the tools to help them develop their artistic abilities.”
“Medina County Art League has a raffle of donated painting from participating artists in our annual Art in the Park event, held on the third Sunday each year in July. For several years the league has added to the raffle earnings making the Scholarship Awards an outstanding amount of money for the students. This year is no different. We have set aside $2,800 to be distributed, including the new Lois Steinmetz Memorial Award,” Barbara Johns continued.
As a high school senior portfolio show, the format is similar to a graduating art major in college who is required to hold a senior show. Entry was open to graduating high school seniors who are students of visual arts teachers in the Medina County schools. Students must have worked on the entries during school hours or in connection with regular school class work. The seniors were judged from their portfolios containing at least five pieces of art showing a diversity of their talent.
This event is presented by the Medina County Schools’ Educational Service Center in partnership with:
- Medina Hospital
- Medina County Art League
- Medina Community Medical Condo Association
