Fine Arts Festivals

The Medina County Schools’ Educational Service Center sponsors four annual Fine Arts Festivals. They are as follows:

  • Solo and Ensemble Festival - January 28, 2012

This festival provides students with an opportunity to showcase their musical talents. It also serves as a preparation for the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) District VI adjudicated events at the high school and junior high/middle school levels. OMEA-qualified adjudicators give performance ratings and verbal comments to students participating in the event. Students from the six county public school districts are eligible to participate in the event. This year the Solo and Ensemble Festival is scheduled to be held on Saturday, January 28,2012, at Buckeye Local Schools.

  • “All-Star” Bands Festival - June 17, 2012

Students are selected based upon their musical ability, interest, potential for growth, and the instrumentation of the ensembles.

  • Visual Arts Festival—High School Senior Show - May 2012

The format is similar to a graduating art major in college who is required to hold a senior show. Additionally, the Medina County Art League presents scholarship awards to the winners of its “High School Seniors Scholarships Programs” during the Visual Arts Festival.

  • Fair Honors Ensembles - Week of Medina County Fair

Students are selected for membership in these ensembles by their school music director on the basis of their playing and singing ability. Rehearsals for the Medina County Fair Honors Bands and Choirs are held daily for two weeks preceding the Medina County Fair. A 131-member county honors band and a 121-member honors choir participated in August 2009. The Fair Honors Ensembles will perform in concert at the 2012 Medina County Fair (date and time TBA).

  • Medina Hospital Student Artwork Display -  May 2012

An outgrowth of the spring Visual Art Festival is a year-long rotating student artwork display on all six floors of the Medina Hospital South Medical Building. The rotation schedule is September-December; December-February; February-April; and June-September.  This public exhibit of student artwork is the result of a partnership between Medina Hospital, Simmons Brothers Construction, the Medina County Schools’ ESC, and the Medina County visual arts teachers.
