The 2017 Medina County Visual Art Festival—High School Senior Show is being held March 8 - April 19 in the South Medical Office Building, Entrance D, 970 East Washington Street, Medina. Show hours are as follows: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Monday through Friday) and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Saturday).
This year’s festival opened its doors to over 230 works of art by 61 local high school seniors. High school seniors who are students of Medina County visual arts teachers were eligible to participate, and both individual entries and portfolio entries were accepted. In addition to judging the scholarship portfolio entries, the Medina County Art League judged the non-scholarship entries and individual entries for first, second, and third place.
"We are delighted to partner with Cleveland Clinic/Medina Hospital and CBRE Group," said Julie Krueger, Visual Art Festival Coordinator for the Educational Service Center of Medina County.
“Cleveland Clinic/Medina Hospital takes pride in supporting the community and partnering with the area schools. We are honored to showcase the artwork of our local students in the South Medical Office Building,” said Dr. Thomas Tulisiak, President of Cleveland Clinic/Medina Hospital.
Additionally, the Medina County Art League (MCAL) presents scholarship awards to the winners of its High School Seniors Scholarships Program during the Visual Art Festival. Janet Baran, Medina County Art League Scholarship Committee Chair, stated, "I taught art for 36 years before retiring recently; 25 of those years were spent in high schools in Albany, New York, and North Canton, Ohio. I taught Advanced Placement Studio Art for the last 16 years of my career. I took on the Scholarship Committee because I truly miss working with students and seeing their world. I had three other judges working together with me, and we were bowled over by the quality and maturity of many of the works. There were at least a dozen students who were in the running until the very end decisions—so close! We were looking for consistency across the works, sensitivity to the medium, and a point of view. These students are the ones who will carry on reaching out to the community and making our world a better and more interesting place in which to live.”
Award winners will be presented their awards on Monday, March 20, 2017, in the South Medical Office Building, Entrance D, on the second floor. A reception with refreshments and music will be held at 7 p.m., and awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
