Bus Driver Training Program

 As the North Regional Pre-Service Instructor, Mr. Mike Redfern provides pre-service school bus driver training classes as well as advanced classes for people in Medina, Richland, Ashland, Cuyahoga, Erie, Huron, Ottawa, Sandusky, Crawford, and Lorain Counties.  He supervises 228 on-bus instructors.  Bus safety videos are produced by Mr. Redfern, and in-service sessions and recertification classes are also provided.  Mr. Redfern certifies state school bus drivers and on-bus instructors.  Also, he state certifies school van drivers and is a School Bus Safety Consultant.  All required state and county reports are prepared by Mr. Redfern, as well as material for the bus drivers’ manual.  The Van Driver Training Video and Manual is produced by Mr. Redfern in cooperation with other Ohio pre-service instructors.  Mr. Redfern also facilitates the Regional Bus Roadeo.

 
Our Pre-Service department coordinates the Advanced School Bus Driver Training classes and On-the-Bus Instructors workshops, which are held ttwo weeks during the summer.  These classes are open to all school bus drivers in Ohio and are held in two different locations throughout the state.  
 

The secretary for the Regional Pre-Service Instructor is Lisa West  She assists with telephone calls and correspondence as well as typing and mailing certificates.  Researching certification information is another one of her duties. Lisa assists Mr. Redfern in preparing the state reports and classroom schedules. Providing support for school transportation departments is also part of Lisa's job description.
